Take Action

Thank you for taking the time to contact our legislators about supporting the National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund.

To make this as easy as possible for you, we created a letter you can send to Senators Blumenthal and Murphy and Representative Courtney.

Please write to each one separately.

Subject: Budget Issue

Dear [Name]

As a [Fill in the blank] in the town of Suffield, CT, I am writing to ask you to support continued funding of the National Park Service Historic Preservation Fund. Suffield is home to twelve houses, sites, and districts on the National Register of Historic Places. The Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) plays a crucial role in supporting organizations and individuals dedicated to preserving the valuable history of our town. However, FY2025 funds have not been released to the SHPOs, and FY2026 funds are at risk of significant cuts. This lack of funding could have a profound impact on a project recently initiated by the Suffield Historical Society to restore the 260-year-old Alexander King House, which is listed on the National Register.  As the country enters the celebratory period of America 250, preserving our historic places should be a high priority nationwide. Please support the Historic Preservation Fund.

Respectfully,
